Dozens of workforce development professionals from across Virginia will discuss regional collaboration to address healthcare workforce shortages
On Monday in Charlottesville, Claude Moore Opportunities, UVA Health, and the Blue Ridge Partnership for Health Science Careers/Carilion Clinic will host a statewide conference to discuss regional approaches to healthcare workforce development. The summit is expected to bring together dozens of stakeholders from around the state representing educational institutions, government, the private sector, and workforce development entities to discuss innovative solutions to Virginia’s healthcare workforce shortage.
Panel discussions will address topics including Claude Moore’s recently released Roadmap for Regional Workforce Partnerships, the latest data on Virginia’s healthcare workforce shortage, development of career pathways, employer engagement, and ways to measure the success and effectiveness of programs.
According to a comprehensive 2023 study for the Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority, 102 of Virginia’s 133 localities are federally designated “Health Professional Shortage Areas” and 93 localities are “Mental Healthcare Professional Shortage Areas,” meaning about 30% of all Virginians live in a community without enough primary and behavioral healthcare providers.
